Chumley

Chumley came to us because her owners felt that they could not give her the time that she deserved, and also that she was screaming all the time. I went to pick up Chumley from Exeter Service station, where we had arranged to meet. The people dropped her, a cage and a playstand into my car and then drove off without a backward glance.

It is easy to see why Cockatoos are the most rehomed bird in the world. They have prolific dust, which people with allergies or asthma would have problems with. The screaming, which is at a loudness that would mean very tolerant neighbours would even find it difficult, yet most information about the birds never gives the full and true story.

I would not part with Chumley now, and when she arrived she was bald, and now she is growing her feathers back and has turned into a cuddle fiend. She loves to sing and dance and likes to be involved with everthing. When she gets spooked she will bite and I have had two occasions where the blood has spurted, but she did not mean to hurt me and she can not help that most of her life she has been confined to a cage with no new stimuli.
